Converting to Lower - Double Strand

Description

The situation: You rigged a double-strand rappel from an anchor at the top using toss 'n go or a similar rigging method. Someone rappelling down got their shirt wedged in their rappel device, and they can't continue rappelling.

The solution:

  1. Feed a second rope through the anchor.
  2. Tie a carabiner on the end of a second rope and lower it to the stuck rappeller.
  3. The stuck rappeller attaches the carabiner to their harness.
  4. Rig for lowering, taking any slack out of the second rope.
  5. Cut the double strand rope, transfering the rappeller's weight to the second rope.
  6. Lower the rappeller to the ground.

Disadvantages

You have to cut the rope to lower them.
