« PreviousNext »Converting to Lower - Double Strand
Description
The situation: You rigged a double-strand rappel from an anchor at the top using toss 'n go or a similar rigging method. Someone rappelling down got their shirt wedged in their rappel device, and they can't continue rappelling.
The solution:
- Feed a second rope through the anchor.
- Tie a carabiner on the end of a second rope and lower it to the stuck rappeller.
- The stuck rappeller attaches the carabiner to their harness.
- Rig for lowering, taking any slack out of the second rope.
- Cut the double strand rope, transfering the rappeller's weight to the second rope.
- Lower the rappeller to the ground.
Disadvantages
You have to cut the rope to lower them.
